You know, I don't like how ISSF is obsessed with safety rules...

You can't lift your arm higher than this...

You must insert that thing that I constantly forget the name of...

Oh, yes, the safety flag...

Maybe it's because we didn't have all of that before 2000.

Before 2000, this sport made much more sense (Status: feeling nostalgic 😢).

Of course, I understand the reasons behind these changes (one of them being that organisations need to justify their existence...).

But today I'm going to talk about... SAFETY 😊

I often notice shooters loading their pistols first, then taking their grip, then checking their position while the pistol is already loaded.

Whenever I see this, I want to ask a simple question:

Can you guarantee that you won't accidentally press the trigger while you're moving?

Nothing like that has ever happened in my experience, but can you guarantee that it never will?

I believe the better sequence is:

  1. First, take your grip properly.

  2. Then check your position with your eyes closed, as many times as necessary, until your arm naturally aligns with the centre of the target.

  3. Make a few dry-fire shots to focus on the process and confirm that your position feels correct.

  4. Only then should you load the pistol.

In my opinion, this is the safest and most logical way to prepare for a shot or a series.
